Unlike the conventionally styled BMW X3 and X5, the company’s five-door SUVs, the production X6 will have seats for only four occupants, with much less rear-seat headroom and a very small cargo compartment by comparison. That’s part of the Sports Activity Vehicle concept, though we’ll likely call it an SUV. Think of it as an SUV take on four-door coupes such as the Mazda RX-8 and Mercedes-Benz CLS.

BMW has shown two strikingly different concepts of the X6, a high-riding SUV that’s a four-door coupe version of the 6 Series and a hybrid version of the same hatchback coupe that was claimed to get about 20 percent better fuel economy than the standard version, with a concomitant reduction in tailpipe emissions.

The production version of the X6 is expected to offer the 4.8-liter V8 and 5.0-liter V10 engines available in the BMW 6 Series and M6 coupes, and it may use the twin-turbocharged inline-6 from the 3 Series as a base engine. We don’t know, they haven’t officially said yet.

Great car. Recommend for anyone wanting a sportscar. Wanted to travel in my Z4 Coupe and it has plenty of power for interstate, fun to drive on the curvy roads. Gets lots of attention. The trunk space is amazing for a sportscar. My husband is 6′ and has no problems getting in or out of it. Comfortable on long trips. I didn’t think I wanted heated seats and the dealer talked me into them. There great. I use them even in the summer, relaxes tense muscles. BMW really takes care of you too. Would recommend a preformance pickup at the factory instead of delivery to the dealer. No extra cost and very informative. Note: I test drove or checked out Porche, Mercedes, 350Z Nissan, and Saturn Sky. They were just no comparison.

I love this SAV it handles very well, gas mileage is decent. Super comfortable, navigation system and the idrive are easy to use. Transmmision can be a little rough uphill or downhill but for that I use the manual shift.

“I bought this vehicle to be both utility and fun. The problem is that the transmission is so unpredictable in its response its downright dangerous and no fun. Near fatal accidents several times due to lag. Vehicle will almost stutter on take off, which is extremely bad when merging into heavy traffic. BMWNA has yet to fix this after a full year and 6 visits to the shop. Many many many many users are now experiencing and reporting this problem with the 07 model and it is now surfacing in the 08. BMW was replacing them quietly, but now is taking a hard line approach and claiming there is “no problem found”. Check the NHTSA site. This vehicle should be recalled. It is reminiscent of the death trap Audi of the 80’s. This is not a BMW.”
